Gatling Blue Laser Review

Hello guys, today I’m reviewing and unboxing something that I’m pretty excited to get. It’s a Chinese one watt blue laser. It has a wavelength of 445 to 450nm. I ordered for these a while ago and now I finally got it.

I actually bought a bundle and not just the laser itself at a cost of $73 for the bundle. I also got it with a case and a couple extras which is the reason why I paid a little bit extra. These lasers without the batteries or any extras will actually cost you about $50.

So right away when you open the package, you immediately see the aluminum case. This houses the laser and the accessories that you get. I didn’t get too many accessories on my purchase. Thought it comes with batteries to charge, glasses, some star caps and just the basic stuffs nicely packaged in everything.

The case feels really good and very well made. It’s built of metal and not of plastic. Right on top, there is something surprising that you almost never see with Chinese lasers. They actually did include some printed instructions, you almost never see that. Chinese made lasers basically never gives you instructions but it’s pretty nice that they did include that.

So I’m now going move on to the case and open it up to see everything inside. Like I mentioned, aluminum case feels really good including its weights and everything. I definitely think this will protect my stuff very well. It doesn’t seem too cheap or anything like that. They packaged up the handle a little bit so it doesn't get scratched and that’s nice.

There is just one simple little latch and you undo that latch to open it up so you can see the laser. Its silver made and that feels really good. The weights are really good. I knew it was going to be metal but the weight is perfect to me. It’s like a little bit heavy and that’s what I was hoping for. The push button which is a black plastic rubbery push button is nice. The first impression is just the weight and it feels really good to hold in my hand.

Before I take a close look at the laser, I’m going to tell you everything else that’s included. You get your red protective glasses. It has an extending back for adjusting the head size, but they definitely aren’t the most durable.

However, it is next that they include some sort of protective eyewear so that you don't have to go out and buy your own but those aren’t foolproof. You can’t point the laser directly into your eye wearing them, they are more for glare.

Whether you buy the bundle or you buy the laser itself, it almost always comes with this little package of star caps. Right here you will get 5 of them, and I will tell you those effects later. They are made of metal having a really nice feel and weight to them. They definitely feel high quality just like the laser. I don't think these are going to break it all but they feel very nice and have a little grip on them too.

You also get 2 batteries included which are ultra fire batteries, LLC 16340 1500milliamp, 3.7v. It also includes the charger as well. A nice thing about this charger is that it actually charges 2 batteries at once which is pretty cool. You just put the batteries in, the spring side is the negative side, and the positive side is the side without the spring. The wall part pulls out and then you just plug into the wall. The charger itself seems of average quality, and a little bit on the lighter sight but not too cheap looking. It just seems like a normal charger.

How do you load up the batteries? You unscrew the bottom part which has that little black push button and takes 2 batteries at a time. The negative side should be down and once you have 2 batteries in there, you just screw the bottom back on. It has a push button which means you push it to turn the laser on and again to turn the laser off. You don't need to hold it down.

Another big factor is obviously because it’s a one watt blue laser. It does burn and has a focusable top which is a key factor in burning. You need to be able to focus that top. I just burned a little bit of the Styrofoam which is probably the easiest material to burn. It burns super easy and I know this is probably an easy material to burn because a green laser could probably do it too.

That’s just a testament to how good this laser is and I guess it’s because I turned it on for half a second. It was already burning. Before you test it out, please put on your protective glasses. Do not test it out without the protective glasses.

Let’s take a look at the inside of the case. The top half of the inside of the case is a nice feeling Styrofoam. It feels pretty good but the case doesn't fit the laser perfectly. It doesn't rattle nor does anything when the case is closed. You are able to close the case except that the laser sits on top of the Styrofoam. This is not a major issue since it still works fine. It still houses everything fine.

I’m going to move on to testing out the actual laser. Like I mentioned, it’s a 1 watt blue laser. There is something you may have noticed that the laser didn't come with a label that mentions the milliwatts or anything. Some of these lasers come with the labels and some of them won’t. So it all depends on what listing you buy from.

While testing out the focusing feature, I focused it to make the beam wider. Besides the burning aspect, this is also a kind of a cool aspect of a laser with a focus on it. If you can make the beam really wide, you can almost turn it into a flashlight. I mean a really high powered flashlight.

Also I forget to mention it, make sure you are wearing those safety glasses whenever you are testing out any of the laser features. I know we are all guilty including me of using it without glasses sometimes especially when outdoor. But whenever you are going to be staring at that beamer dot, you really should use glasses to avoid eye damage.

The beam is completely visible in a lighted indoor setting, and the dot is very bright. You probably could have assumed that in a dark indoor room setting, it’s going to be even brighter.

The beam is much brighter and the dot will actually light up the entire room blue pretty much. The beam is extremely bright and visible. You probably could have figured out you should never point this at a person or a vehicle; just a little disclaimer right here.

In an outdoor daytime setting, the beam isn’t really visible during the day but the dot is clearly visible at many distances. In a daytime foggy setting, this laser looks absolutely insane, so if you have a foggy day, try that out.

Another really cool feature I want to mention to you guys is what this thing looks like in a fish tank, or through water. It looks really cool as it makes a solid beam through water.  Make sure it is an empty fish tank so as not to point it at any fish tanks that have fish in it.

In the best setting which is night time of course and most especially on foggy nights. This thing looks absolutely insane. It’s a light saber basically and this means it’s not as wide as a light saber would be but it definitely is as bright as it would be. It’s very intense.

The beam is visible for miles and the dot is extremely bright. The seconds I turned it on, I scared about 2 dozen geese away. This is very powerful. If aimed into the night sky, it goes on forever. Make sure you avoid aiming at planes and any vehicles because it is a federal crime.

I would highly suggest the keeping of the beam in the laser itself within the confines of your yard or in the sky away from planes. This is because if you are aiming it in neighbors’ yards or in the rotor, they will most likely call the police.

This laser is so strong and bright at night time. It actually surprises me that they are still legal due to how strong it is. Whereas they are already illegal to ship to a lot of places and will probably be illegal in the US soon.

On the five star caps effects which is the effect that you get with almost any laser pointer. It’s like a bunch of little dots and you can make them all combine or split up. The second one is one of my favorites where you get a bunch of little dots that almost look like they are on a flat square.

When you spin it, its looks 3D, and it looks like a flat square that’s spinning around. It’s also one of those things where some people see it spinning right to left, and other people see it spinning left to right. It’s just a really cool effect.

Next one is a circle effect. You have a bunch of dots in a circle and you have a kind of wider circle too. When you spin it all, the little dots spin. All the little dots spinning are pretty much. All there is to this one is that they don't like growing or anything like that. They pretty much just spin.

Besides that, there is a bunch of circles all connected to each other which are interlinking like a chain.  It’s the last star cap effect on a bigger scale with a bunch of circle. When you spin the star cap, all the circles will spin. So there is nothing really major to that one. It has a cool looking. It’s very wide and ensure you are not pointing it at anybody’s vehicle or anything like that when you use it.

The last one is a bunch of dots like the first one, but when you spin it, they all form into lines. So that’s what all the star cap effects look like.

Next is a burning test. I have the laser focused into the smallest possible beam, and I’m going to start with a match. Make sure you have your safety goggles on. It lights the match after about 2 or 3 seconds. I have a small bowl of water right next to me to put all the burnt materials in right after.

I try to burn the wooden part of the match, and I had a little trouble getting it to light on fire but I did manage to burn through the entire thing. I don't know what was going on but I definitely think if I spent a little more time, I could have gotten it to light on fire.

The next one I’m going to do is a green leaf that I had just pulled off a plant. The smoke produced by this may end up setting off your smoke detector. This depends on where a smoke detector and I want you to know that. It burns through the green leaf which is a living leaf with no problems at all. So that’s pretty cool.

Next up is infamous, the tape test that everybody does with their laser pointers. It’s a black electrical tape. In case you don’t know, lasers burn black and dark colored materials much better than lighter colored materials. I would avoid breathing in the black electrical tap smoke as much as possible. This is because I feel like that’s one of the things that is really not good for you. I was able to cut completely through and it took me about 10 seconds or maybe a little bit more.

I also tried a dry and dead leaf. Be careful while you are doing this because this is very easy to light on fire. Make sure you have a bowl of water right next to you immediately it’s burning. I’ve already burned through pretty much and I’m seeing some red areas now. I’m going to stop because I don't want to completely light it on fire. At the sight of red embers, I immediately put them in the bowl of water just in case.

The next thing I’m is about the little piece of receipt which you get at a grocery store or something like that. Its lighter colored and it doesn't burn as quickly as a darker colored piece of paper would. It does burn right through in a couple of seconds and this is another thing that you could light on fire pretty easily. So just be careful with that.

Also a dry wood chip can be used. It’s from an area of my yard which normally does not get any rain or water or anything like that. It’s not moist at all or anything like that. It’s a very dry piece of wood. It does burn it. It doesn't burn all the way through and maybe if I left it on there a bit longer it would.

Lastly I’m going to use a balloon. I did color part of it black, but I tried to do it on the orange part to see if it pops. It popped almost immediately which was pretty quick.

I did the entire burning test with fully charged batteries. This is to let you know that if you want those results, you should probably charge the batteries fully.

The laser is of very good quality. Although the case isn’t the best quality, the laser itself is of very high quality. It’s actually a little more than I‘d expect for the $50 to $70 range. I know that’s a lot to spend on a Chinese laser but this thing definitely is worth the money.

Every part of the laser itself from the little black button to all the metal parts are all very well made. When you are holding it, the weight just feels really good. It just feels like a really high quality product.

I have mentioned in the past how a lot of these Chinese laser producers will over speculate the power of the laser. This one does not follow that trend at all. If there is anything I’d say, they might have even under speculated. This is definitely a 1 watt laser. I like everything that I have seen from this laser from the visibility of the beam to its ability to burn back set up. I really wish I had some type of scale to prove that to you.

Finally I mentioned that I really love the push button where you only have to push it once to turn it on and to turn it off. This opposes some of the lasers that have a button that you have to hold down.

There are really no problems that I can point out about the laser itself. It’s really nice and I haven’t run into any issues at all. If I bought the laser by itself I’d probably give it 9 out of 10.

However, with the bundle and those issues I mentioned about the case and the stull not really fitting that well. I’d probably give it 8 out of 10 and that’s my opinion in review on this laser pointer on an overall.

Thanks for reading.

PS You can always get high quality laser from laserpointerstore.com, they have a really good customer service and shipment speed.
